Nose Cone for the Journey Home Lamps
Hello Friends-
The lamps are finally assembled and ready for purchase! They are soda-fired porcelain (wood kiln) with celadon liner glaze. The heat of the wood kiln causes unpredictable warping, especially with the varied thickness that allows for translucency, giving each lamp a unique and waving form. Occasionally they split as they expand and contract with the heat of the kiln. Historically, japanese potters would celebrate these cracks with gold leaf, highlighting the movement and tension involved in the process. I have used a 22k gold overglaze (gold in solution that is fired on at a lower temperature) to do the same with these pieces.
